Many Thanks to Everyone Who Made This Year's
Chainsaw Manicure a Resounding Success

In Honor of the Efforts of Our Volunteers,
Down Home Ranch Has Been Officially Recognized as a Firewise Community/USA by the Texas Forest Service Here's an article from the High Plains Observer describing how Down Home Ranch implemented the Firewise principles to become the 19th Texas community to be recognized as a Firewise Communities/USA. Missed this year's Chainsaw Manicure? Don't worry... there's always next year! The Texas Chainsaw Manicure is a no-frills day of cutting trees and brush, along with pruning vines and other vegetation. Besides helping to maintain a beautiful environment on the Ranch, the manicure creates a more "defensible space" in case of fire and also opens up even more of the land to exploration and enjoyment. In honor of our efforts, the Texas Forest Service has officially recognized the Down Home Ranch as a Firewise Community/USA. As you can see from the photos, chainsaw-wielding volunteers are definitely needed, but so are many more volunteers to pick out brush, prune smaller items, and just load all the vegetation onto the trucks or into the burn pile! Come for an hour or come for the day, 8:00a - 4:00p. Any time you have to help us out will be very much appreciated. We'll have a t-shirt ready for you ("I Survived the Down Home Ranch Texas Chainsaw Manicure") and we'll break at noon for a catered barbeque luncheon. Have a question about bringing a corporate, youth, or church group out for the 2009 event? Have any other questions? Call us at 888-926-2253 Or email us: info@downhomeranch.org |
